Wheeler, Provenzano secure District 3 GOP nod

Nick Provenzano and incumbent Barbara Wheeler took the top spots in a five-person field Tuesday night in their bids to secure the Republican nomination for two seats representing the McHenry County Board's District 3, according to unofficial results late Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting, Provenzano had tallied 1,716 votes and Wheeler garnered 1,367 votes.

The winners will face Democrat Lori McConville of Crystal Lake in November. Two, two-year terms are at stake.

Provenzano, a former six-year board member who lost his seat in 2008, said constituents agreed with his plan.

"It was my message to voters, unfiltered, that basically said lower taxes and less spending," he said. "I know the budget. I know where we can do cuts."

Craig Steagall, Karen Tynis and Veronica Armstrong rounded out the field.
