Voters deny Bensenville fire tax hike
Voters Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a proposed $110 property tax increase for Bensenville Fire Protection District No. 1.
According to unofficial results, the measure failed with 87 percent of the 528 voters denying the tax increase.
District 1 President Donovan Heinz said the tax increase was sought so residents living in the southern portion of the largely unincorporated district could maintain the fire protection services of the Elmhurst Fire Department.
The district contracts with Bensenville Fire Protection District 2 for coverage of homes north of Grand Avenue, about 60 percent of its constituents. It uses Elmhurst Fire Department for houses south of Grand Avenue, which represents about 40 percent of the district.
