Schostok leads in 2nd Appellate race
Mary Seminara Schostok had a comfortable lead Tuesday in the Republican race for the 2nd Appellate Court vacancy in Elgin, with 56 percent of the vote to Donna Kathryn Kelly's 44 percent.
Unofficial vote totals had Schostok with 115,344 votes and Kelly with 90,708.
The district covers nine counties outside of Cook County.
Schostok has served as an appellate justice since 2008 and was a Lake County circuit judge, associate judge and assistant state's attorney before her appointment.
She stresses her experience in all areas of the law in her bid for election and supports continuing the ban on cameras in courtrooms.
The Illinois State Bar Association rated candidates for the seat and found Schostok "highly qualified" and Kelly, a McHenry County attorney, "not qualified."
