Rickert keep job as Kane Co. treasurer

David Rickert will return as Kane County treasurer after voters perhaps believed his challenger wasn't serious enough about the job.

Rickert is in charge of making sure all the numbers add up for the county's tax collection process, and the numbers added up for him at the polls Tuesday night as he soundly defeated GOP rival Bob Kovanic.

Unofficial vote totals showed Rickert with 24,433 votes with all 299 precincts reporting. Kovanic finished with 7,431 votes.

With Rickert's re-election, he's promised to make Kane County's financial books more transparent. Some of the financial information is already appearing on the county's revamped Web site.

Kovanic told voters throughout the campaign that the treasurer's office was not his main career goal, and he'd have no problem with only a single term.
