Mitchell ready for Kane Co. Board race in fall
Incumbent James Mitchell is a step closer to becoming the most senior Kane County Board member after the North Aurora resident beat challenger Lee Jacobson in Tuesday's Republican primary for board District 9.
With all 11 precincts reporting, unofficial numbers show Mitchell with 1,183 votes over Jacobson's 473 votes.
Mitchell, who has served on the board for 19 years, will be the most senior member if re-elected in November, when he faces Democrat Christopher Faber in the general election.
"I want to thank the voters for giving me the chance to run again," Mitchell said. "I promise to do my best to do a good job and work on their concerns and be responsive to their needs."
Mitchell, 64, said building a consensus among the 26 county board members was a major issue that drove him to return for another shot at the 2-year seat. The infighting and unrest among the relatively young board members are preventing the board from acting in the best interest of the county, he said.
Board member Bob McConnaughay, who joined the board when Mitchell did, chose not to run for re-election.
