With all 299 precincts reporting in Kane County and Aurora Township, Dalton and Akemann had 7,746 and 13,002 votes, respectively.

Trailing were Democrat Michael C. Funkey, with 5,560 votes, and Republicans Thomas Patrick Rice, 5,927; Leonard Wojtecki, 5,460; Robert Janes, 4,171; and D.J. Tegeler, 3,091, according to preliminary results.

"The thing on my mind tonight is profound gratitude for everybody who helped my campaign," Dalton said. "The victory, if there is one when the final vote is taken (in November), is theirs."

Akemann said he was "honored, humbled ... stunned."

"I appreciate the voters' support and look forward to running in the fall," he said. "I'm just honored to have the nomination of my party again."

He faced four others, including two associate Kane County judges, Janes and Wojtecki, who will remain in their appointed positions.

Democrat Funky, of Aurora; and Republicans Rice, 56, of Batavia; and Tegeler, 46, of Geneva, all are in private practice and were seeking their first election to a judicial post.

The position is a resident judgeship in Kane County.

Akemann and Dalton will face each other on the ballot for the six-year term in the November general election.
