Aurora teen in custody in death of relative
An Aurora teen is in custody as authorities consider charges in the death of a 50-year-old relative following an argument Monday night.
Ludivina Vieyra, 50, of the 1100 block of High Street in Aurora, was killed after she jumped onto the running board of a pickup truck driven by the 17-year-old, who drove a few blocks but then braked, hurling the woman to the ground, said Dan Ferrelli, the director of media relations for the city of Aurora.
The incident occurred about 9 p.m. at Pine and Assell avenues in Aurora.
Ferrelli said the the 17-year-old had an argument with another family member. He left the home and got in his 1995 Dodge 1500 pickup truck. However, Vieyra jumped onto the vehicle's passenger side running board in an attempt to stop the teen from leaving, Ferrelli said.
But the teen sped away westbound on Pine Avenue with the victim still on the running board, Ferrelli said. He braked a few blocks later, throwing Vieyra to the street where she suffered massive head injuries, Ferrelli said.
She was taken to Provena Mercy Center Hospital by paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, Ferrelli said.
Ferrelli said the preliminary investigation did not reveal any immediate signs of drug or alcohol involvement.
Charges are expected against the teen later Tuesday, Ferrelli said. The teen is currently being held in the city lockup.
