GOP contenders for Kane County Board Dist. 23 talk issues

The top three campaign issues for the two candidates in the Republican primary race for the Kane County Board District 23 seat are similar in nature. But the approach to each issue is different for Maggie Auger and Donald Moore.

Transportation, county finances and growth and development are among the major issues both Auger and Moore cited in Daily Herald candidate questionnaires. However, the candidates offer contrasting views on which are more important.

While Moore, a 46-year-old financial adviser from Carpentersville, lists an economic recovery as the number one campaign issue, Auger puts transportation on top.

"As your representative on the Kane County Board, my primary duty is to ensure that your tax dollars are utilized in the most effective manner," Auger, 53, of Algonquin, wrote. "However, this cannot be the only issue. Our economy will recover and we need to plan for the future."

In his response, Moore said because the economy is expected to slowly recover in the next year, the county's finances are his number one issue.

"Given this very fragile situation, my primary focus will be upon fiscal restraint," Moore said.

Completing or beginning road projects in the district was Moore's second issue.

"Transportation continues to be an issue when we take a longer look at the future of the county," Moore said. "I would investigate what could be done to move along projects like the Huntley Road expansion."

Taking the transportation issue a step further, Auger said public transportation in the region is also an area the county should consider.

"Traffic is multijurisdictional and we need to work with surrounding municipalities, counties, townships and the state to provide long-term intergovernmental planning for the best transportation system for Kane County," Auger said. "We also need to work with the public transportation services, such as Metra and Pace, to improve and provide public transportation options for Kane County."

District 23 covers all or parts of Algonquin, Carpentersville, East Dundee, West Dundee and Sleepy Hollow.
