Service advocates can speak at polls

As a volunteer representative of Americans for Prosperity in Lake County, we are working hard to hold our elected officials accountable for how they spend the taxpayers' money.

It's tragic that vital government services in Illinois are feeling the effects of years of irresponsible spending and mismanaged finances from our elected representatives. Many of these groups cite the increased number of people in need as justification for a tax increase to support important social services.

The irony is that many of these organizations have endorsed the same politicians who sought to ensure re-election by diverting funds that were designated for social services into the hands of their special interest supporters. All the while the state debt continues to grow and vital services continue to be cut.

Instead of demanding more tax money, public service organizations need to reconsider who they support. The days of electing politicians who put special interests first are numbered. The taxpayers have caught on to the scam and are saying "enough." Our state will be better off if we elect candidates who support free market principles that help more people to take care of themselves and ease the financial burden on all working citizens.
