Man charged in Elgin robbery attempt

Bond was set at $40,000 Thursday for a Bloomingdale man accused of trying to rob an Elgin gas station.

James R. Zoske, 21, of the 0-100 block of Country Club Drive, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted aggravated robbery, a Class 2 felony.

Police said Zoske entered a Mobil gas station in the 600 block of Villa Street with his left hand in his sweatshirt pocket and told the clerk he had a gun. After refusing to hand over money, the clerk made note of Zoske's vehicle and license plate number as he drove off, police said.

"He left without any money," Elgin Deputy Chief Jeff Swoboda said. "We were able to capture him a short distance away."

Zoske's attorney, Donald Zuelke, declined to comment Thursday, saying he had little information on the case.

If convicted, Zoske faces up to seven years in prison. He must post $4,000 to be released from jail while awaiting trial. His next court date is Feb. 25.
