Elgin man remains hospitalized after shooting, search continues
Police continue to search for a gunman who shot a 26-year-old man several times Wednesday morning on Elgin's east side.
The victim has not been identified, but police reports state, he lives in the 400 block of Prospect Street, where the shooting occurred.
Deputy Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said Thursday police were investigating a motive for the shooting, and the victim remains at Sherman Hospital.
"It's all we can confirm. He's still in the hospital," Swoboda said.
A Sherman spokesman declined to comment on the victim's condition.
Police were called about 10:57 a.m. Wednesday to the southwest corner of Prospect and Seneca streets after the victim was shot at least twice in the abdomen, police reports said.
A resident of the area told police he saw a man about 20- to 22-years-old running west from the scene with a black gun in his hand, reports said. The man was wearing black pants, a red shirt and brown work jacket, the witness reported.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at (847) 289-2700.
