Four charged in Batavia fight on New Year's

Three adults and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with felony mob action in connection with a fight at an underage drinking party on New Year's Eve in Batavia, police said Wednesday.

Charged are Chelsea A. Manzella, 19, of Taylor Drive in Geneva; Janet M. Haas, 18, of Mark Twain Trail in St. Charles; Lauren A. Calbeck, 18, of Blackhawk Drive in Batavia; and a juvenile also from Batavia who is not being identified because of her age, police said.

Altogether, 15 people, including nine juveniles, were charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol at the party on the 500 block of Blackhawk Drive after police responded to a complaint. Steven G. Villalpando, 25, of the 600 block of Mount Vernon Place, Batavia, was charged with supplying the alcohol.

On Wednesday, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Thrun said subsequent investigating revealed the four partyers since charged with felonies had been in a "physical altercation" with another teen girl at the party.

What sparked the fight remains unclear, Thrun said, but the victim was not seriously injured. Police would not release her age.

Calbeck, Haas and Manzella are scheduled to appear in court March 16, police said. Villalpando's next court date is Feb. 23.
