Oh, for a true depiction of the U.S.
The devastation in Haiti looks unimaginable. The impoverished people of that country do not have the means to cope with such a large-scale calamity, so the U.S., as we are always ready to do, is sending money, troops and supplies to aid the people of Haiti.
And it's not only the U.S. government helping, millions of private American citizens stand ready to help with donations. Many more are already in Haiti or on their way to assist with immediate needs. I am sure many more will follow in the coming months to help rebuild the country.
The U.S. is the most benevolent country in the world and I could not be more proud to see so many of us helping. It troubles me when I see movies like Avatar (and others before it) that portray U.S. citizens as a bunch of power hungry and natural-resource-consuming hogs who only go places to steal resources and take advantage of people.
When will a James Cameron or a Michael Moore or someone else in Hollywood make a movie portraying the people of the United States as what we truly are? A compassionate, caring and noble country that always stands ready to help those in need, regardless of what we may get in return.
