Three taken to hospital after eight-vehicle Barrington Hills crash

A chain-reaction accident in Barrington Hills Tuesday morning ended with eight vehicles damaged and three people taken to the hospital, officials said.

Barrington Hills police officials said they were called to the accident at the corner of Route 62 and Autumn Trail at about 7 a.m.

The investigation showed that Philip Shrake, 24, of Algonquin, was heading westbound on Route 62 when he crossed the yellow line in his green 1995 Toyota, police said.

He ran into a maroon 2004 Nissan driven by Joseph Ingraffia, 29, of McHenry, and the two autos began spinning and colliding with other cars, officials said.

In the chain reaction chaos, a 2002 black Dodge Truck, a 2007 Honda truck, a 2002 Chrysler minivan, a 2000 white Ford Taurus, a maroon Chevy Blazer and a black 1995 Oldsmobile were hit.

Schrake and Gregario Vega, 30, of Streamwood were treated and released at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, while Lisa Mickow, 42, of Elmhurst, was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with similarly non-life-threatening injuries.

Seven of the eight vehicles involved had to be towed from the scene, officials said, and the road was closed for about 90 minutes following the crash.

Rescue and fire units from Algonquin, Barrington, Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley and McHenry were called to the scene.
