Four Waukegan men charged with attempted murder
Four Waukegan men have been charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm after police said they shot a man and took his cell phone.
Waukegan police responded to the 2000 block of Western Avenue at 11:36 p.m. Jan. 21 and found a 42-year-old man on the ground next to his car bleeding from lacerations to his head and a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Witnesses said they heard a gunshot and saw several people running from the scene. Darrius Gunn, 18, of the 2100 block of Lorraine Avenue was stopped a few blocks away and was positively identified as one of the people fleeing the scene, police said.
Three other suspects were arrested within 10 hours of the shooting: Ja'Frai D. Bradshaw, 19, of the 600 block of Second Street; Michael J. Cook, 19, of the 500 block of Poplar Street and Christopher N. Davis, 18, of the 2200 block of Linden Avenue.
Police said the men intended to rob the victim when they saw him sitting in his car. After they took the man's cell phone they shot him and fled the scene, police said.
The four men are being held at the Lake County jail. Cook is held on $2 million bond, Gunn and Bradshaw are held on $1.5 million dollar bonds, and Davis is held on $750,000 bond.
The victim is in critical condition at Vista Medical Center East, police said.
