Stardardized tests more related to IQ
Stardardized tests more related to IQ In a recent story the subject of teacher evaluations by scores on standardized tests to be signed by the governor as a law has come up. The legislature is looking for a magic bullet, firing of teachers based on student test scores, which is fundamentally flawed. The schools are segregated according to natural test-scoring ability either by school, as in Chicago, or by classroom in the rest of the state. Naturally high scorers are in some high schools in Chicago such as Lane and Southside Prep, and naturally, average and low scorers are in the neighborhood schools such as Crane and Carver. In the suburbs such as Downers Grove the schools have all naturally high scorers in one class and naturally average and low scorers in other classes. Teachers of naturally high scorers will always look good because their students will always score high no matter how good, bad, or average the teaching is. Teachers of average and low scorers will never look good no matter how outstanding they teach because their students will never do outstanding on standardized tests. We must make the public aware of these facts, especially that scores on standardized tests are more related to IQ, which cannot be changed very much no matter how good the teaching.Stewart E BrekkeDowners Grove
