For Will County Sheriff, Republican: Kaupas
Two-term incumbent Paul Kaupas of Mokena faces newcomer Steve Egan of Joliet in the Republican primary for Will County sheriff. Egan, a longtime sheriff's deputy, lacks the experience and vision.
We choose Kaupas because of his accomplishments: overseeing a jail expansion, creating a gang suppression unit, maintaining one of the state's lowest crime rates and starting a forensics computer crime lab, one of only three in the state.
Though his term has not been perfect, he deserves the party's nod for a shot at continuing to lead his department through the recession and completing his goals.
