For DuPage County Forest, Dist. 4: Formento

Voters have an interesting and difficult choice Feb. 2 in the Republican primary for a four-year seat on the DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission from District 4, where longtime incumbent Michael Formento of Glen Ellyn faces a substantial challenge from former Wheaton Mayor C. James Carr.

Both are powerhouse candidates with proven track records, excellent leadership skills and superb knowledge of the issues.

We give the edge to Formento, who after 16 years on the commission remains a positive force in keeping the district's finances in check. He's also an accessible leader who isn't afraid to ask tough questions to ensure residents get the information they need.

Carr is an attractive candidate, too, who would bring a measured, thoughtful approach to the commission, but can't provide a compelling enough reason to oust the incumbent.

District 4 covers all or portions of Wheaton, Winfield, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Carol Stream and Lombard.
