For Kane County Board District 5, Republican: Wyatt
Republican Bill Wyatt is our choice for Kane County Board District 5. The incumbent has a formidable opponent in Melisa Taylor.
Taylor, a Sugar Grove trustee, says "it's time for a fresh change ... new energy and independent thinking" on the county board.
We can't say that, generally speaking, we disagree. But in this case, Wyatt has proved to be a strong voice and leader on the board since 1997. He has the backing of Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, past chairman Mike McCoy, State Rep. Kay Hatcher and Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michels.
Wyatt supports video gambling while Taylor opposes it. Both believe in fiscal restraint, and Taylor wants to address budget issues that are countywide, not solely in the district.
Taylor has put time and research into her views and would be a good choice. Her heart is certainly in the right place.
For now, Wyatt is also in the right place and he should stay because of his experience, his devotion to the job and his ability to deliver. "I have a passion for the job," he says. "When it goes, I go."
