Delnor's Giving Tree to collect for food bank
With the northern Illinois jobless rates surpassing the national employment rate of 10 percent, local food banks and organizations are seeing a greater need to keep their shelves stocked with food for families. And the need in Kane County continues to rise. This is where Delnor's Giving Tree can help and everyone in the community can help do their part as well. For January, the Giving Tree is partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to provide assistance to those who need it most.
Northern Illinois Food Bank does more than just provide food to hungry people. It's also about giving back to the community and being a part of the solution to hunger.
"Northern Illinois Food Bank works with many individuals, companies, and organizations to fulfill its mission to provide food to those in need," said Sarah Slavenas, communications manager at Northern Illinois Food Bank. It gathers donated food from retailers, manufacturers, corporations, and community resources and distributes it through a network of nonprofit food assistance sites including food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and other food assistance sites.
Last year, it experienced a 35-percent increase in the demand for food assistance in Kane County.
Delnor is collecting nonperishable food donations including canned beans, tuna, chicken and other meats; processed cheese; soups and stews; peanut butter; canned fruits and vegetables; cereal; flour, pasta; boxed meals such as macaroni and cheese; oatmeal and drink mixes. For a complete list, go to delnor.com and look under the "What's New" section for the Giving Tree.
An actual "Giving Tree," located in the Delnor Hospital atrium, allows for employees to easily drop off contributions. For community members, just pull in to the entrance of Delnor Hospital, 300 Randall Road, Geneva and the valet parking staff will take donated items from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
