Antioch police investigating false bomb threat at Walmart

Antioch police say they are reviewing telephone records as part of an investigation into a phony bomb threat Sunday at a Walmart on Route 173.

Police Cmdr. Jim Ruth said an employee received the telephone threat and quickly called authorities at 11:03 a.m. Sunday. He said police led what was an orderly evacuation of about 200 customers and workers.

Ruth said officers, assisted by the Antioch Fire Protection District, set up a perimeter around the Walmart at Route 173 and Deep Lake Road. He said officers who searched the store concluded there was nothing suspicious.

Walmart was allowed to reopen about 2:30 p.m., Ruth said. He said investigators are seeking phone records and hope to determine on which line the bogus bomb threat was received.

Four officers were sent on the initial response to the Walmart, Ruth said, with another four dispatched later for backup.
