Hughes a better pick than Kirk for Senate
I have been active in the Republican Party my whole life, working for 13 years as a precinct committeeman in Lake Forest.
I worked hard to help elect Mark Kirk as our Congressman many times. When he began his career as our Congressman, Mark Kirk campaigned AND voted conservative values. Now, his voting record betrays the values that put him in office, while he attempts to trick us on the campaign trail with his hollow rhetoric. I can no longer support his election.
This is the reason the citizens are so fed up with the Congress: They say one thing and do another!
On Jan. 7, at Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest, I heard a newcomer to the political scene - Patrick Hughes. He gave a stirring and well received presentation for his campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Lake Forest is definitely Kirk territory, yet despite the forecast of heavy snow, the room was packed and overflowed into the hallway.
Here is some of what gets me excited about this candidate: Hughes questioned how Kirk could vote for "cap and trade" legislation and still be considered fiscally responsible. Hughes emphasized that when government grows, our cherished liberties contract. He insists on fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, protecting our borders and traditional values.
I think my favorite point was Hughes promised to serve only two terms in the U.S. Senate. How refreshing to hear someone who promises to serve his constituents and then return to private life instead of lining his own pockets and reveling in the power of Washington.
My vote is definitely going to Patrick Hughes for U.S. Senate.
