Without experience opinion is worthless
Open Letter to Rep. Jan Schakowsky:
Yesterday, I saw an interesting report on a local television news program. The reporter indicated that you have been active in formulating the health care bill which the Democratic majority is preparing for passage.
According to the report, you were a significant force behind an amendment to the House bill. The amendment requires that health insurance providers be prohibited from charging different premium rates for men and women, even though insurance companies have said that women in general incur higher medical care costs than men. This is because women use health care services (doctors, hospitals, diagnostics) to a greater extent than men, and therefore have higher costs for more services. (Could this be partly explained since women have babies and men do not?)
When it was suggested that this might be unfair to men, you said that you did not believe the insurance companies.
Having looked at the biography on your official Web site, it appears that you have never been involved in running a business and never had to make the decisions required to meet a payroll or keep costs and prices in line to survive a competitive business environment. In short, you appear to lack the ability to refute the insurers claim, have no alternate data to put forth and simply deny that the insurance companies have any objective evidence which disagrees with your "vision" for "health care."
Since women outnumber men in the general population, and especially in sub groups such as the black community, how do you justify your position?
Your view is unacceptable to me personally and also with regard to the situation of my family. In short, you haven't a clue as far as we are concerned.
