End the lockdown on county board
Did you happen to read the articles in the Daily Herald recently about the Kane County Board? It seems like the lack of information the public receives also exists within and among the board members.
If board members have to seek out information or glean it from papers handed to them from county officials, is it any wonder why no one knows the true financial condition at the county? I wonder why the full picture isn't discussed openly at board meetings with answers provided to both the members and the public.
In the Jones and Wyatt article they said something about it being the members' own fault for failing to seek out people to answer the questions. If information isn't now shared fully and openly, then indeed Karen McConnaughay directs and controls the board's actions through a select group of puppets.
In that case, Jim Mitchell's comment about some board members not working for taxpayers' interests sure rings out loud and true. How about those insurance benefits, which he stated brings board members close to a $50,000 salary? We would all like to have our insurance paid. When he addressed finances, he said, "I can tell you that the county board, despite what anybody tells you, doesn't know what's in the budget they passed specifically..."
Surprise, surprise. If the board doesn't have all the information and doesn't share information, how can they know? Even of greater concern is how can we the taxpayers believe they represent our best interests?
Things will change when the taxpayers get fed up and start electing members that are going to put our interests first. If it is as bad as implied, there should be an investigation into county board activities. They need to be held accountable.
Right now they remind me the Three Stooges. Hopefully, we'll not let them make stooges out of us.
