No one injured in Aurora apartment fire

Several residents were evacuated from a two-story apartment complex on the 500 block of South Ohio Street early Friday evening, after the owners discovered a fire in the basement.

The Aurora Fire Department responded to the call about 5:35 p.m. and arrived to find flames had spread to the first floor, officials said. No one was injured.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in approximately 10 minutes, with three engines, two trucks, two medics and two fire chiefs responding.

The building sustained approximately $70,000 in damages and is uninhabitable, and the flames damaged or destroyed about $30,000 in property, authorities said. They added that all residents found alternate housing.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but officials said they believe it originated in the basement.
