Drive-by shooting in Elgin

Elgin police are looking for whoever is responsible for a Friday morning drive-by shooting on the city's east side that police say looks to be gang related.

At 10:56 a.m., two cars were heading north on Shales Parkway near Chaparral Circle, when one occupant of a vehicle opened fire on people inside a Nissan Altima, Lt. Sean Rafferty said.

"This does not appear to be a random act of violence," Rafferty said. "Initial indications are that it appears to be gang related, but without suspects or suspect information, we can't say for certainty that it is gang motivated."

Bullets hit the car several times, with two penetrating the windshield.

Nobody was injured in the shooting and police at the moment are conducting interviews with the people inside the Nissan to develop suspects, Rafferty said.
