Ellett slates fundraiser for Morrison

Hampshire girls basketball coach Sue Ellett wasn't able to make it to the Dec. 20 bowling benefit for Zach Morrison.

So this Saturday, Ellett hopes she has found a way to do her part in assisting the 21-year old former Burlington Central football and wrestling standout who is battling brain cancer.

During the Burlington Central at Hampshire basketball Pack the Place event, Ellett will have a table set up in Hampshire's commons area to accept donations for the Fight4Zach Foundation. The National Honor Society will assist Ellett at the table and all proceeds will be donated to Morrison and his family to help defray the cost of his medical expenses. Morrison is currently undergoing radiation treatment for a tumor that is too close to his temporal lobe to be surgically removed.

"That kid would have run through a wall for me," said Ellett, who was Morrison's seventh-grade basketball coach in the Burlington Central middle school system.

"Now he has a wall to run through that I want to help him with. This is an opportunity for me to help him and his family through this obstacle. He's a great kid who would do whatever you asked him to do."

The BC at Hampshire Pack the Place event begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and includes the Whip-Purs' girls varsity team taking on the Rockets at 5:45 p.m., followed by the boys' varsity teams playing another game in their long-standing rivalry.
