Des Plaines Dist. 62 going green

Des Plaines School District 62 receives thousands of requests from community organizations to distribute informational materials to students. Suitability and approval are at the discretion of District 62; please be advised that the district is very selective in allowing items to be distributed through our communication systems. Monday, Feb. 1, District 62 is going "green" by launching a new approach to distributing information from nonprofit organizations and intergovernmental agencies. Instead of sending flyers home via backpacks, the district will post information on a Virtual Bulletin Board link of the Community Resources section on the District 62 Web site. It is estimated that this will save nearly 2,000 hours per year of handling these materials, not to mention trees and other important resources.

In the initial implementation stages of this new system, bi-weekly announcements and e-mail notices will be sent to all AlertNow parent participants, reminding them that flyer information is posted on the Virtual Bulletin Board Web page. If an organization wishes to submit information to be posted, please do so electronically by emailing a PDF of the flyer to wardm@d62.org at least 10 days in advance of the desired posting date. We also ask you to complete a district-wide Materials Distrubtion Request form. The completed request form may be scanned and emailed, or copied and faxed.

Postings should be limited to one per month, with a two-month limit for any one item. Approved postings will be updated on a bi-weekly basis.

Upon district approval, and at the discretion of each building administrator, a limited number of printed/copied materials may be posted in the school offices and/or posted as appropriate. The requesting organization must provide copies to each school in a timely manner. It is not possible for schools to make additional copies or to distribute to individual classrooms/students.
