Fire destroys Wheeling mobile home

Wheeling firefighters are investigating a fire that destroyed a mobile home early Tuesday, said Chief Keith MacIsaac.

Firefighters were called to Whippletree Village at about 3:40 a.m. Whippletree is home to about 300 mobile home units and located in the 9100 block of Carriage Hill Road in Wheeling.

"When firefighters arrived, they found one mobile home unit that was completely engulfed," MacIsaac said. "They quickly extinguished the fire, but it spread to two other units because of their proximity."

The fire caused about $100,000 in damage but all residents were evacuated safety. Damage to the other two units was contained to car ports and garages.

MacIsaac said the fire was accidental and appears to have been caused by a mechanical failure, possibly in the unit's furnace or electrical wiring.
