Wolves ice Rivermen

Kevin Doell opened the scoring in the second period and center Johnny Pohl added a pair of goals to lift the Wolves over the Peoria Rivermen 3-1 before 13,555 at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night.

The Wolves (19-16-0-2) have defeated Peoria (20-14-1-3) in all four of the clubs' head-to-head matchups so far this season and recorded wins in three straight contests on home ice.

Wolves goalie Drew MacIntyre (9-11-1) made 16 saves on 17 shots in his first start since Dec. 27. He held the Rivermen scoreless for the first 45:07.

"We played really solid and we were able to get a lot of shots on net because we were so good in our own end," said Wolves coach Don Lever. "We are looking for consistency to our game and we are starting to get that."

After 31:07 of scoreless hockey, Doell's goal put the Wolves on top 1-0. Right wing Spencer Machacek hammered a shot from the blue line, which bounced off Rivermen netminder Ben Bishop's pads, and landed unattended near the crease, where Doell came streaking in and pounded it into the net.

Pohl scored the game-winner with a power-play goal at 3:51 of the third period to make the score 2-0. Bishop went down to make a save on a Nathan Oystrick blast from the blue line, leaving the net wide open for Pohl.

Peoria responded just 76 seconds later when center Nicholas Drazenovic carried the puck around the back of the net and flicked it out front to defenseman Justin Fletcher, who roofed it over MacIntyre's right shoulder.

Pohl scored his second goal at 11:53 of the third when he backhanded a rebound between Bishop's pad and the post after picking up a rebound from a Patrick Galivan attempt.

Bishop (12-7-2) turned aside 39 shots for Peoria.

The Wolves will host the Toronto Marlies at the Allstate Arena at 3 p.m. today.
