Why no donation to county in dogfight?
After reading your Jan. 4 article concerning the verdict in the dog fighting conviction of Robert Kollman of Lombard, I was stunned. A $500 donation to the Hinsdale Humane Society?
The surviving dog, Rampage, was fed, housed, given medical attention and cared for by the wonderful people at DuPage County Animal Care and Control for months before being released. Why was not a donation given to them?
DuPage County Animal Care and Control receives no tax dollar funding from DuPage County and the cost to them far exceeded the donation amount. This $500 would have helped enormously to offset this cost.
What did the Hinsdale Humane Society do for the dog? Judges in DuPage County usually follow recommendations of the states attorney's office in sentencing after conviction. So may it be assumed that the prosecutor, erred in judgment when making this recommendation? As a county employee, she should have been aware that animal control receives no tax dollars from the county and recommended a donation be made to them to offset the time, effort and funds expended on behalf of Rampage.
