New Sherman a great experience

I wanted to send a letter of "kudos" to the staff and administrators of the new Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

On Dec. 15, I woke up with a low-grade temperature and a painful abdomen. I decided this was something that should be checked out so I headed to the new hospital at 2 p.m., not sure what to expect since this was the first day in their new location.

I was met with a smiling face as I entered the doors into the emergency room. A woman took my information and I was walked to my private emergency "room" by a nice and caring nurse. The room was bright with natural sunshine. Everyone was friendly and organized and I was treated by Dr. Ford. After some blood work and a CT scan, I was diagnosed with appendicitis.

My surgery was scheduled for that evening. As I waited, I was visited by Mrs. Reed, a hospital board member, to thank me for choosing Sherman Hospital and to see if I needed anything.

My surgery took place at 7 p.m. by Dr. Aron and was a success. My surgery was the second surgery to take place at the new hospital and I joked that I should receive a special "prize." I was in my brand-new private room by 8:45 p.m. and settled in by the nursing staff. The patient rooms are beautiful, all private with showers in every bathroom. Every room has a nice view of the hospital property.

What impressed me the most was how friendly, caring and professional the staff was during a day that I'm sure was hectic behind the scenes. We have always chosen Sherman Hospital for our medical needs and will continue to do so. The drive across the river will be well worth it for me and my family. Thanks again to the staff for making my stay so pleasant.
