Arlington Heights woman dies after crashing vehicle in Palatine

No charges will be filed in a two-vehicle collision in Palatine that killed a 76-year-old Arlington Heights woman Wednesday afternoon.

Virginia Cole, of the 200 block of North Kaspar Avenue in Arlington Heights, died from multiple injuries in the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Cole had been pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m. Wednesday at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder of the Palatine Police Department said Cole was turning left in her 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass from Maple Avenue onto Northwest Highway when she was hit at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Schroeder said that as Cole was making the turn, her vehicle was struck by a 1997 Honda Accord driven by a 49-year-old man from Geneva, who was traveling westbound on Northwest Highway.

Schroeder said that surviving driver was determined to not be at fault and no charges or citations will be filed against him.

Cole was treated at the scene before being transported to Northwest Community Hospital by the Palatine Fire Department.
