DePaul women win in OT

Sam Quigley made her last five free throws to push the DePaul women's basketball team past Big East rival Louisville 76-70 in overtime on Tuesday at McGrath Arena.

After regulation ended deadlocked at 66, the Blue Demons, playing their second overtime game in eight days, outscored the Cardinals 10-4 in the extra period.

Up, 69-68 with 2:15 to play Keisha Hampton forced a Louisville turnover and converted a layup on the other end to put the Blue Demons up 71-68. Quigley, who entered the game shooting .847 at the free line, sealed the victory by making her last five free throws in the final 56 seconds of play.

Quigley and Hampton led DePaul (12-4, 1-1) with 22 points apiece while Hampton added a career-high 5 steals and 6 rebounds.

Quigley finished 9-for-12 from the free throw line and dished out six assists.

Felicia Chester grabbed a career-high 16 boards to go with 3 blocks.

In a game that saw Louisville (9-6, 1-1) open an early 19-8 lead in the first 7:21; the Blue Demons were able to ride Quigley's nine first half points and took a 28-27 lead to the locker room.

The second half played like a see-saw as the score was knotted four times and the lead changed hands on an additional 14 occasions.

The Blue Demons took their largest lead of the game, 62-54 when Jennifer Juergens hit her first of two free throws with 3:24 left in regulation.

Keisha Hines, who finished with 20 points, led the Cardinal comeback effort as she scored four of Louisville's final 12 points in the second half to knot the game 66 and send it to overtime.

The Blue Demons return to action on Saturday at No.22/17 West Virginia. The matinee begins at 1 p.m. and can be heard on www.DePaulBlueDemons.com.
