McQuillen stays on ballot in 50th House race
A Judge Monday denied an objector's request to remove Bob McQuillan of Geneva from the Feb. 2 Republican primary ballot for the 50th House District seat.
According to McQuillan, Cook County Circuit Court Judge Patrick McGann ruled that when the Illinois State Board of Elections allowed him two extra days to obtain affidavits as to the validity of petition signatures in dispute, doing so did not slow the process.
McQuillan said the judge ruled that First Amendment right to run for office takes precedence over procedural rules.
The objector, T. John Reeves of Oswego, could still appeal the ruling in state appellate court.
McQuillan is vying with Keith Wheeler and state Rep. Kay Hatcher, both of Yorkville, for the nomination.
