Christmas tree pickupAs part of Batavia's refuse contract, Veolia ES Solid Waste Midwest will pick up live Christmas trees on residents' regular collection dates. Residents do not have to use a sticker for Christmas tree removal on these dates only. All materials such as plastic bags, ornaments, lights, nails, etc. should be removed from the trees. Pickups on the far west side (west of Randall Road) will be today and Monday, Jan. 11. Pickups on the east side of town will be on Thursday, Jan 7 and Thursday, Jan. 14. Pickups on the west side of town (east of Randall Road) will be on Friday, Jan. 8 and Friday, Jan. 15. For more information, call (630) 454-2423.North Aurora plan meetingThe North Aurora Plan Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5 to conduct public hearings on a special use for a assisted-care/memory-care center in the Randall Road Commercial Center, and a variance for outside storage and display for Backyard Solutions, 119 Butterfield Road. The meeting is at the village hall, 25 E. State St. and is open to the public.Know a great Boy Scout?Boy Scouts of America are seeking nominations through Feb. 8 from across the country for the 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership. Anyone can recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, registered Scout leader, or scouting volunteer. Inductions will be based on stories submitted online to local Boy Scout councils across the U.S. and reviewed by a national panel of judges. Nominations will be posted through the Hall of Leadership section of scouting.org/100 years. Each nomination must be in story form and 450 words or less. Inductees will be announced at the Boy Scouts of America National annual meeting in Dallas in May. The National Hall of Leadership is one of many programs being unveiled this year as part of Scouting's 100th Anniversary Celebration, along with a local 100th Anniversary Scout-O-Rama to be held for more than 10,000 people, May 15 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.Geneva school board on TVThe Geneva school board now broadcasts its meetings on Geneva/St. Charles cable access Channel 10, and on the Internet, at 4 p.m. daily.
