Long Grove firefighters contain blaze to SUV

Long Grove firefighters extinguished a fully engulfed 1993 Chevy Blazer before it spread to a house that was only about 10 feet away, said Long Grove Deputy Chief Ken Buchardt.

"The only damage the house sustained was a broken window," he said. "That's pretty remarkable. The vehicle was very, very close to the house."

A man inside the house in the 16000 block of Aptakisic Road called the fire department at about 11:15 a.m. on Thursday when he noticed his vehicle was on fire, Buchardt said. The car was reported as a total loss but no one was injured, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Buchardt said.
