Aurora-area's first baby of the new year

Kristie and Matt Schuman have spent a lot of time with doctors recently, but Friday's stay at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora was a joyful event.

Taylor Brooke Schuman was born at 6:24 a.m., two days after her father had knee surgery. The 8-pound, 13-ounce girl balances the Schuman family in Montgomery by joining brothers Hunter, 15, and Matthew, 5, and 7-year-old sister Riley.

Matt's mother, Jane Chidester, of Waterman, had to drop the couple off at the hospital because Matt is using crutches.

"We might all be sleeping downstairs for a couple of days," said Kristie Schuman. She is a records technician for the Batavia Police Department, and her husband is a printer.

Meanwhile, Sherman Health in Elgin reported its first 2010 birth when Gael Guerrero entered the world at 2:27 p.m.

The son of Angelica Chavez and Victor Guerrero of Elgin weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and has two excited brothers, Fabian, 6, and Miseal, 2.

Gael's mother says the baby resembles her, but his father, a factory worker, says he favors him.

And yet another new Northwest suburban resident was welcomed into the world on New Year's Day, into the home of Rosa Rosada and Alvin Lebron of Woodstock and their two other children. Rosa started feeling those familiar labor pains around 10 a.m. on New Year's Eve. So her longtime boyfriend, Alvin Lebron, drove her to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates where, about 17 hours later, she gave birth to suburban Cook County's first baby of the year - and the decade.

Joaquin Lebron arrived at 4:54 a.m. Jan. 1, weighing 8 pounds, 12 ounces and was 21 inches long.

"I didn't even think about what day it was," said Rosada, 20. "He's a big baby ... and he has a lot of hair."

Joaquin will come home to live with older brother Alvin, 3, sister Deyeneiry, 2, and their dad, Alvin Lebron, 25, a factory worker in Woodstock.

"Everything went well and (Joaquin) is healthy," Rosada said. "My son wanted a boy, so he's going to be happy."
