Man found fatally shot in Zion alley early this morning

Zion police and officials from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting death of a 29-year-old man who was discovered in an alley early Thursday.

Anthony Sanford, 29, of Zion, was found in the 2600 block of Emmaus Avenue, said Deputy Lake County State's Attorney Jeffrey Pavletic.

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Sanford was shot multiple times in the abdomen and chest at about 2:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan at about 5 a.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday afternoon to determine the cause of death and the number of times the man was shot, Keller said.

Officials from the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Zion police said they would release information at about 3 p.m. Thursday regarding the incident.
