Juvenile seriously hurt in Lake Zurich crash

A juvenile was seriously injured Thursday evening after being struck by a car in Lake Zurich.

The youth, whose sex and age were not released, was struck by a car about 6:25 p.m. on Route 12 at Pheasant Ridge Road. The car was traveling north when the youth apparently went back into the roadway to pick up a cell phone in the street, according to Lake Zurich Police Chief Patrick Finlon.

The youth was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and might have to be transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Finlon added.

There is a traffic signal and cross walk at the intersection. Details were not immediately available. The accident is being investigated by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
