Gurnee man admits to sex with 15-year-old

A 23-year-old Gurnee man will serve jail time following a plea agreement he made with prosecutors for having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met on Facebook.

Joshua Britzman, of the 100 block of Greenhaven Lane, was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months of periodic imprisonment and 30 months of felony probation after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, said Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton.

Britzman also must undergo sex offender treatment, register as a sex offender and have no contact with those under 18, aside from supervised visits with family members, Stanton said. He also is only allowed to use the Internet for work-related issues, and must be monitored when online, she added.

Britzman could have been sentenced up to 7 years in prison for the incident in August, Stanton said.

Britzman went to the victim's home in southern Wisconsin on Aug. 27 and picked the girl up. They then went to Britzman's Gurnee apartment where they had sex, Stanton said.

The victim then called a friend to pick her up in Gurnee; however, the friend came to Gurnee with the victim's mother. The girl went to the Gurnee Police Department to report the incident, she said.
