Firefighters battle blaze at Lake Forest home
Firefighters from throughout the suburbs battled a blaze at a house in Lake Forest on Wednesday.
The fire on the 1500 block of Waukegan Road, near Route 176, was reported about 3 p.m.
The blaze started in a fireplace on the southeast side of the home. When crews arrived, smoke was visible and at least two rooms were ablaze. The fire ultimately spread to the second floor and the attic.
One firefighter suffered a back injury and was taken to the emergency room, according to a news release from the Lake Forest Fire Department.
One person at the home at the time had escaped before firefighters arrived. A second person was helped out of the building by a Lake Forest police officer.
Firefighters from about 20 departments - including some as far away as Wauconda, Mundelein and Buffalo Grove - were called in to assist.
The investigation is ongoing.
