Kane Co. Dist. 23 candidates eye higher level of government

A pair of Republicans seeking the seat serving the Kane County Board's 23rd District are aiming to make the leap from the local to county government.

Maggie Auger, 53, of Algonquin, and Donald Moore, 47, of Carpentersville, are vying for the party's nomination to the November general election ballot, when they will try to win the seat currently held by John Mayer, a West Dundee Republican who chose not to seek re-election.

The district includes the Kane County portion of Algonquin, and parts of Carpentersville, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow and Dundee Township.

Though neither candidate has held an elected position, both Auger and Moore say their civic involvement within their respective communities, as well as professional endeavors, have prepared them for a seat on the county board.

"I have been involved with the local government in Algonquin for the last 17 years," said Auger, an attorney who began her service on the village's economic development commission in 1992 and has served as the village's planning and zoning commission chairman for the past decade. "I am ready to take it to a higher level."

Moore, a member of the Carpentersville audit and finance commission from 2005-2006, says the county board would benefit from his background as a financial adviser.

"My expertise with financial markets is unique and would be a great deal of help given the difficult economic situations we have faced and will face," said Moore, who also served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1981 to 1985.

In addition to her experience on various village commissions, Auger also has volunteered with Algonquin's Founder's Day celebrations and served as a building project leader for the Angel Towne Park.

Meanwhile, Moore - who is married to former Carpentersville trustee Nancy Moore - is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Huntley and the Carpentersville American Legion Post.

The successful candidate will join Democrat Linda Nuneman on the November ballot.
