St. Charles man charged in Christmas shooting

A St. Charles Township man faces felony charges in connection with a Christmas Day shooting at his home, police said Monday.

Juan Carreon-Pacheco, 41, is accused of firing a .357-caliber revolver in the direction of an 18-year-old friend, also of St. Charles Township, after an argument on the 36W700 block of Red Gate Road.

Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said at least three people were inside the residence during the shooting, but no one was hurt. The cause of the argument was unclear.

"The offender fired a single shot at the victim," he said. "The round ended up hitting the ground."

Carreon-Pacheco was arrested at the scene without incident. He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, a Class 4 felony, and misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault and no valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card, according to Kane County court records.

If convicted of the felony, Carreon-Pacheco could be sentenced to up to probation or up to three years in prison. He remained in the county lockup Monday with bond set at $100,000, pending a Jan. 7 court date.
