Police chase ends in 4-vehicle crash
A major Lombard intersection was closed for more than an hour Monday afternoon after a police chase ended in a four-vehicle crash.
Authorities say two men were fleeing from Broadview and Westchester police about 3:28 p.m. when the pickup truck they were in collided with several vehicles at the intersection of Roosevelt and Westmore/Meyers roads. The truck, which had a snowplow blade attached to the front, was traveling west on Roosevelt when the crash occurred.
"We're lucky this wasn't a more serious accident," said Lombard police Chief Ray Byrne.
One motorist was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Byrne said the chase started after a retail theft in Broadview. Police were pursuing the pickup truck when it hit a vehicle along Roosevelt in Villa Park but continued west. It's unclear how fast the pickup was traveling when the Lombard crash occurred.
Byrne said the male driver and the male passenger of the pickup were both in custody.
