South Barrington vocalist among finalists

A Barrington High School vocalist is among five finalists from Illinois who will compete at YoungArts Week in Miami Jan. 11-16.

Katelyn Wilson of South Barrington is among 143 young artists nationwide who were chosen from 4,000 applicants in visual, literary and performing arts.

YoungArts is the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Students who are judged top winners will go to New York in the spring for a week of workshops, collaborative performances and exhibitions.

Several winners also will be named 2010 Presidential Scholars in the Arts, with the opportunity to perform at the Kennedy Center and exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.
