Bears fans show sign of discontent in Arlington Heights
A billboard calling on the Chicago Bears ownership to fire coach Lovie Smith and General Manager Jerry Angelo was put in place Wednesday on Hintz Road just west of Schoenbeck Road in Arlington Heights.
Andy Korn, owner of Kornerstone Signs, the official sign provider for Bear Fans United, the Web site behind the disgruntled fans, said Bears owners have to understand fans are upset.
"Bears owners have to understand fans are not satisfied and we will go to this length to show our displeasure," Korn said.
The sign urges the McCaskey family to fire Head Coach Lovie Smith, General Manager Jerry Angelo and the rest of the staff after this season.
Since starting the Web site bearfansunited.org a week ago, the group has raised about $3,500 from other fans for the billboard, which costs $3,000. The goal is to raise $13,000 to buy full-page newspaper ads. Web site founder Andrew Gasser said they'll donate anything leftover to the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation.
The billboard idea germinated last week in an online rant on the team's official Web site.
