A Christmas wish for autistic kids
Dear Santa,
Though I am a grown-up, this letter is not about me or my needs. My wish is for kids living with autism and Asperger Syndrome. My wish is that they receive universal health coverage and autism insurance, wherever they live.
My wish is that tolerance and understanding become mandatory in schools and eventually the workplace.
My wish is that signs of abuse and neglect in children with or without special needs become recognized as early as possible, that teachers, doctors, pastors - all involved in their communities - be allowed to report signs of abuse and neglect without fear of lawsuit or job loss.
My wish for autistic children and all children living with special needs is to go on to receive the care and services they will need to be fulfilled adults; to lead fulfilling lives, not only to fulfill society.
My wish for autistic children is that they have at least one good lifelong friend who understands them and values them for all that they are.
Santa, I know that I grew up hearing the main version of how you bring mainly toys to kids, but I believe that you are about much more than that. You have numerous helpers in many parts of the world to help you 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I believe in you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
