MLK dinner finds new home in Hoffman Estates

The annual dinner honoring Martin Luther King Jr. sponsored by the Illinois Commission on Diversity & Human Relations will be held Jan. 12 at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates, the Rev. Clyde Brooks announced Tuesday.

Organizers had to scramble after they learned this past weekend that the original place for the dinner, the Sheraton Chicago Northwest in Arlington Heights, will close next week along with the adjoining CoCo Key Water Resort.

Eight banquet facilities contacted Brooks after the story of his plight appeared in the Daily Herald. Hoffman Estates Mayor William McLeod and his staff were a big help in getting the event moved to the Marriott, at 4800 Hoffman Boulevard, said Brooks.

Tickets for the dinner are $55 each and can be ordered at (708) 772-8752 or by e-mail at info@icdhr.com. The Illinois Commission on Diversity & Human Relations sponsors the dinner as well as one in Chicago on Jan. 9.
