Don't throw money at video gambling
In response to the Nov. 20 story "Lisle latest to ban video gambling," I am pleased that our local towns are taking a stand against gambling machines. These would potentially be detrimental to families in our community.
Gambling can be a very addicting habit and could jeopardize the well being of families- especially dependent children. Personally, I do not understand why the law was passed in the first place. Through the various taxes and other revenue such as highway tolls, it seems as though we should be able to produce enough revenue to run our state.
In these difficult economic times when people are struggling financially, the last thing we need is for people to be throwing their money into gambling machines. The thought is absolutely ludicrous. The risks of video game gambling outweigh the potential profits and I think it is commendable that our local officials have chosen to forego potential revenues in order to protect our communities.
